Why was World War Two important to Great Britain?
In English, we are learning: How to use figurative devices. To make choices which have a specific effect on the reader. To choose appropriate language and contractions. About types of sentences and the order in which to put them. To use action, description and dialogue. To use paragraphs and transition between correctly. We will be reading ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’ by Michelle Magorian as our novel. In Maths, we are learning: To use commutative and distributive law. To use brackets, formulae and balancing/satisfying equations. To solve multi-step problems involving money and the four operations. To calculate fractions. To recognise, name and compare properties of quadrilaterals, triangles and circles. To find unknown angles. To use sequences and patterns, algebra. In Science, we are learning: About irreversible charges (including effervescence and burning.) In Geography and History, we are learning: To locate countries and key cities involved during WW2 What life was like for a child during WW2. About the Battle of Britain and to sequence key events during WW2. Linked with WW2-themed sleepover. Year 6 Curriculum Overview – Spring Why was World War Two important to Great Britain? In PSHE, we are learning: About Road Safety and how to ride a bike on the road. How to respect differences – discrimination and equality. About the value of resilience and faith. First Aid. In PE/Games, we are learning: To choreograph and perform dance themed on as aspect of WW2. To improve skills and understanding of tactics and strategy in Basketball. In Art and D&T, we are learning: To explore art created using fabric. To sew using different stitches and using different grades of needle and thread. To plan and prepare a healthy meal using rationing constraints. To use a variety of cooking techniques and tools. In Computing, we are learning: How to cencrypt and decrpyt messages. About the importance of e-safety using passwords. In French, we are learning: To consolidate vocabulary understanding related to clothes and colour. To continue to build towards a fashion show in which the children design and describe their outfits to an audience. In Music, we are learning: To sing songs in scat style and accompany with rhythmic ostinato. In Forest Schools, we are learning: ‘Dig For Victory’ – raising beds, preparing the soil and planting seeds.
