Key Vocabulary Factor: a whole number that divides another number with a remainder of 0. Composite Number: a whole number greater than 1 with more than two factors. Prime Number: a whole number with exactly two factors 1 and the number itself. Prime factorization: a composite number written as a product of prime numbers.

Writing Prime Factorization
We do this by using a method called the factor tree. The original number is the tree and the numbers coming out of it is its roots. Example: 125 125 5 25 5 5 The prime factors are the final breakdown (the last row in each break): 5x5x5 or simply put 53

Example 150 150 10 15 2 5 3 5 Answer: 5x3x5x2 or 52x3x2
