4 PROCEDURES Tell Students: “My success roadmap is a program where the subject matter is the most interesting topic for discussion: YOU.” Program focuses on examining students’ experiences and beliefs, and how they can develop the skills that will help them become successful. 5minutes

5 Discussion: Success Highway
What do people do on the highway? Why do you think the themes of highways and travel have been chosen for this program? When you hear someone talking about life is a journey, what do you think they mean? If you were going to drive from one end of the country to another, what would you do to prepare for the trip? 5 minutes Idea that a map can be helpful in planning a journey, then distribute my success roadmap

6 Success is… Pass out billboard equipment have students write “ Success is…” Share out and ask students which one is their favorite? Which they can relate to? Why was that meaningful to them? Point out poster with Success definition and their definition on their my success roadmap activity journals. 5min 10 minutes

7 Becoming a Teacher When I was young, I always though I would be…
I imagined a lot of things would happen in my life, like… When, How, and Why I became a teacher. Challenges I faced becoming a teacher and how I faced them: How being a teacher enables me to feel successful (doing work I value) Some of the things I imagine for my future after teaching When you heard me talk about my experience of becoming a teacher what does that remind you of? Raise your hand if were surprised by anything I shared. 10 min

8 Personal Timeline Students work on Journal pages 2-3. Complete Sections I and II. What do students envision for themselves at the age of 25. Students create a small draft timeline.

9 Synthesize Ask students to summarize
What’s important to you when you imagine your future? What does success mean to you? What is your vision of what you want to achieve by age 25?
