Well-known subfields of geography are cartography and meteorology, but geographers work in many different areas. One way to study geography is by focusing on areas that have common features. These are known as regions. There are three kinds of regions: formal, functional, and perceptual. One can also study the Five Themes and Six Essential Elements of geography.
