St. John’s Church of England Primary School Newsletter
- Learning and Caring Together - Issue 5 Friday 6th October 2017 Football – lots played, not many goals! It’s certainly been another busy week on the football pitch. On Wednesday, in blustery and very wet conditions, St. John’s played superbly to battle for a 0-0 draw against Ainsdale St. Johns. In a match of few chances, both sides could have won the game in the last minute but overall, a draw was the fair result. Player of the match was Luca for his control of the game in the middle of the park! Last night the girls played in their first tournament together and were absolutely brilliant as they stayed unbeaten in their group. Krystal and Grace were immense in defence, Courtney made some superb saves and we were so, so unlucky in our last game where Lily hit the post and Lottie the bar! Three 0-0 draws against Our Lady of Compassion, St. Patrick’s and Farnborough leaves us with great hopes for the season! Player of the tournament was Sienna, who was non-stop around the pitch! Good luck to the team who will be representing St. John’s at the LFC tournament at Stanley next Thursday. EYFS meeting Thank you to all who attended the meeting with Mrs Thomas about the Reception curriculum – we hope it was very useful. If you were unable to attend, Mrs Thomas will be sending home a pack via book bag mail. Play and Learn Our hugely popular Play and Learn sessions are starting again next Wednesday morning between 9 and 10:20. Pre-school children are invited to attend (with a parent) a fun session led by Mrs Thomas which will include games, stories and refreshments. Contact Mrs Thomas or the office for further details. Stanley High Year 6 had a little taste of High School this week when they visited Stanley for a day of secondary-style lessons. They had a wonderful time and were a real credit to yourselves and our school. A reminder that applications for secondary school need to be made soon; letters were sent home in September about this process. Should you have mislaid the letter, please contact the office. Rose Lodge Year 5 were also superstars when they visited Rose Lodge Care Home this week to sing Harvest songs, complete Harvest activities and chat to the residents. Mr and Mrs Corbett, who organise the link, commented that this Year 5 are among the best they have welcomed to Rose Lodge in terms of behaviour and how keen they were to chat to all the residents!
