IBM Configurator for e-business (e-config) Training Module 5 – AIX and IBM i configuration

2 e-config Training – Module 5
This is the fifth module in a series of modules that are being developed to help our IBM and Business Partner sales teams learn about the basic workings of the IBM Configurator for e-business, also called e-config. This module is designed to help you better understand how to configure an AIX and IBM i "software only" configuration - (no hardware associated with these e-config software orders).

3 e-config Training – Global Settings ‘Main Selections’
After launching e-config and starting an initial order, the Global Settings pop-up window will display. From here select the ‘Main Selections’ tab. Some selections are set by default, you can select and deselect as you prefer. These are the main settings that you will set to help customize when creating a configuration, and will vary based off of the product

4 e-config Training – Global Settings ‘Pricing Options’
After launching e-config and starting an initial order, the Global Settings pop-up window will display. From here select the ‘Pricing Options’ tab. Some selections are set by default, you can select and deselect as you prefer.

5 e-config Training – Software Configuration
After setting your selections under Global Settings Wizard and selecting ok, you will now have the ability to choose software to configure Software Platform, Software Global Options, Software Products, Software Packages, and Subscription Packages For this module I will select the iSeries or AS/400 for the platform You could also launch back into Global Settings Wizard – please see the bottom middle of screen.

6 e-config Training – Software Configuration ‘Platform Options’
In this example I chose the iSeries or As/400 Platform under ‘Platform.’ Under the ‘Server Model’ the Model 810 is selected. The options under ‘Processor Feature,’ ‘Software Version/Release,’ and ‘Processor Group’ are set by default. You can choose to change those options, as needed.

Next I selected Software Global Options You can just select the items you would like to make selections and/or adjustments too The following preferences were set by default: License Type: Basic Change Option: OTC Media: CD-ROM Language: English U/L SBCS Support: Standard Support Maintenance: 1 Year Maintenance You can modify any of the options by selecting the corresponding drop-down arrow.

Next I moved to the ‘Additional Primary Languages’ tab By default no additional primary languages were selected. I selected Canadian French. 8

Next I moved to the ‘Secondary Languages’ tab By default no additional primary languages were selected. I did not need a secondary language so no selection was made. I will continue to the ‘Pricing Options’ tab next. 9

Next I moved to the ‘Shipping Options’ tab The following options were set by default: Shipping options: Ship Publications/Media Expedite: Do Not Expedite As noted earlier, you can modify the options by selecting the corresponding drop-down arrow. 10

Next I moved to the ‘Miscellaneous’ tab This tab has some default options set but you can modify them, as needed for your particular configuration. 11

12 e-config Training – Software Configuration ‘Packages’
Next I moved Software Products. By default ‘System Association’ was set to Model 810 V6R1. You can select a product(s) under ‘Product Categories.’ By default no product(s) are selected. I select ‘Internet Products’ Once a product(s) is selected, an optional screen is displayed to select/define details of the product selected.

13 e-config Training – Software Configuration ‘Packages’
Next I moved to Software Packages. By default no options is selected under ‘Packages.’ I select DB2 Value Pack for i5/OS (5722-DVP)

14 e-config Training – Software Configuration ‘Maintenance’
Next I moved to Software Maintenance By default ‘Available Options’ was set to ‘1 year Software Maintenance…’. If needed, you can select a new option for your configuration. If you are not adjusting or adding any more information you can choose to ‘Configure’ to exit the Wizard.

15 e-config Training – Software Configuration Main Screen
This is the view from the main configuration screen. You can always make changes to the configuration using the Software Wizard, which is highlighted on the bottom of the screen. For this presentation I will not make any additional changes and continue the next step, which is to export the configuration, as highlighted in the upper left of the image.

16 e-config Training – Product Configuration Main Screen
Now you can export the configuration by selecting the export menu button (see red box) or you can right-click on the 'CFR 1’ area in the top left of the screen shot. You can choose ‘Order Forward’, ‘Export Options’ or ‘Request a Services Proposal’ along with other options. Here you would want to choose ‘Request a Services Proposal’ in order to get pricing for the Services that where added into your configuration. You can also see the proposed configuration in the right portion of the image.
