FAQ Q: My child doesn’t turn 16 until after the Final written test? A: No worries, once your child passes the state permit written test with an 80% or better, the BLUE card is valid until they turn 16 years old. Q: My child is already 16 years old with a permit, do they have to take Driver Education? A: Yes, the class is a graduation requirement, and you will receive a discount on car insurance once they earn their license. Q: What are the benefits of Driver Education at WTHS? A: The curriculum in Driver Ed prepares students for the NJ State Permit Test, while also preparing students to be on the road. Q: Once my child passes the NJ Permit Written Test, can they drive? A: No, your 16 year old child must register with a driving school to complete the 6 hours behind the wheel program. Once they complete the 6 hour training, they will receive a validated permit which allows them to drive with a parent/guardian. Q: What is the difference between passing this class and receiving a permit? A: The course allows your child to earn their BLUE card. The Blue card is valid until they turn 18. Once that step is complete, you may sign your child up with a driving school to complete their 6 hours behind the wheel. Q: How long before my child can get their license? A: Your child must be 17 years old and have their permit for at least 6 months before they can take their road test/license test.
