Background The alarming burden of chronic NCDs pandemic is of great concern to public health in both developed and developing countries. Unhealthy diet and physical inactivity are major global risk factors in the epidemiology of NCDs. Promisingly, much of the global chronic NCDs burden is preventable through Regular Physical Activity and Good Nutrition 1/4/2008

The Current Global Situation
Currently, there are Global and may be National physical activity and dietary guidelines, plans and targets in place allover the world. However, the Global Physical Inactivity Trend is alarming. A large gap remains between healthy dietary patterns and what people actually eat. Despite of the all advantages of exercise, at least 60% of global population does not engage in regular physical activity. 1/4/2008

The barriers The important obstacles to achieve the global physical activity and dietary targets are: the existence of strong psychological, socio-cultural and environmental barriers to healthy lifestyle. 1/4/2008

Objectives To reveal the pattern of physical activity among patients attending the PCC at KKUH, Riyadh. To describe their barriers to physical activity. Subjects and Methods A cross sectional survey was conducted during 2007 450 Saudi adults Above age of 18 years Those attending the PCC at KKUH in Riyadh. Patients with disabilities or severely ill were excluded. 1/4/2008

Data collection tools Self-administered questionnaire
Interviewing and explaining for those who were in need (illiterate, poor vision,..). The questionnaire included data about Socio-demographic characteristics level of physical activity barriers to physical activity barriers to healthy diet. 1/4/2008

WHO Definition of Regular physical activity
Moderate-intensity physical activity for at least 30 minutes on five or more days per week. 1/4/2008 9/11/2018 Brriers to healthy lifestyle 10

Data about barriers to healthy life style
A questionnaire for barriers to physical activity and healthy diet was adapted from the CDC website. It was translated to Arabic, pre-tested and distributed in the mornings among people waiting their medical appointments at PCC. 1/4/2008

Recommendations People must be made aware of health benefits of physical activity and motivated to be more physically active on an everyday basis. Provision of appropriate regular physical activity facilities and open spaces especially for girls and women. Increase access to affordable healthy food choices. 1/4/2008

Recommendations Multi-sectoral approach is needed to raise awareness,
to promote behaviour change at the individual level to improve physical environment and infrastructure design to support healthy lifestyle in every day setting. 1/4/2008
