2. Startup Sequence Boot Load O/S Load Configuration File
Similar to DOS – POST, Bootstrap program & diagnostics
Load O/S
Can be found in Flash, TFTP server, or ROM
Load Configuration File
Can be found in NVRAM, TFTP, or entered from console

3. Startup Commands Router # show running-config
Router # show startup-config
Router # reload
Router # startup
Router # erase startup-config
The commands show config, write term, and write erase, used with Cisco IOS Release 10.3 can also be used for short term

4. Setup Mode [ ] indicate default value – press ENTER to accept
If no default, a ? Appears – enter your choice
CTRL+C will end the process and allow you to begin again
A YES response to the prompt will load the commands into RAM and save as startup-config file in NVRAM
You can turn features on with setup, but you cannot turn them off.
Setup does not support many of the advanced features of the router

5. Global Parameters Initial prompt is router >
To rename router, from enable Exec mode
Router # hostname VKP
You can enter secret encrypted password as part of setup procedure
You can also enter secret encrypted passwords for virtual terminal

6. Lab Activity Startup router using default startup
