2 Objectives- Day 4 Students will know 6 Dating Standards
SOLs: 9.1, 9.1b, 9.1d: 9.2, 9.2a, 9.1c 9.4, 9.4a, 9.4b Students will know 6 Dating Standards Students will know how to say NO if you are pressured to be sexually active Students will know how to set limits for expressing physical affection Students will understand the factors in preparing for dating Students will understand the nature and purpose of dating

3 Bell Ringer (Day 4) Pick either 1 or 2 to write a half page red to red. Some people think that the automobile has improved modern life. Others think that the automobile has caused serious problems. What is your opinion? Support your opinion by using specific reasons and details. If you could meet a famous entertainer or athlete, who would that be, and why? What would you do? Support your opinion by using specific reasons and details. Include the statement as the first sentence in the beginning of essay. Save these to be turned in with your test!

4 Nature and Purpose of Dating
Dating is having SOCIAL plans with another person. “Going Out” or “Hanging Out” are other phrases. Dating is a developmental task of adolescence. One needs to develop dating skills. Parents, many times, are examples that are followed (neg. and pos.). Dating is a developmental step toward marriage.

5 Factors in Preparing for Dating
Developing dating skills is important. These are competencies that help a person when he/she has a date, or plans on asking someone out. Having Courage to get a date Being up front Being ready for steady (handle the responsibility of dating only one person) How to turn down a date It’s okay not to go out Loan or Gift (know the difference and if it needs to be returned after a break-up)

6 How to set limits for expressing Physical Affection
Do not date someone who doesn’t respect your limits. Avoid drinking alcohol or drug use and also avoid this behavior in someone else.

7 How to set limits for expressing Physical Affection
Limit to hand holding, hugging, and casual kissing to keep your BRAIN in control of your decisions and actions. (Your BODY will try to take over if the situation becomes too involved) Tell the other person your limits ahead of time.

8 How to Say NO if you are Pressured to be Sexually Active
Be confident Give reasons Avoid situations and people that you may be pressured by. Know the laws

9 6 Dating Standards Background information on the person being dated.
Name, age, number, high school etc… Give exact plans. When, where, how long etc… Arrange for safe transportation. Are you driving, parents or sibling picking you up

10 6 Dating Standards Set a Curfew
A fixed time when a person is to be at home. Establish a code of conduct for yourself. (Self-respect) Can you be alone? Who pays for what? Establish a code of conduct for the person you are dating. (Respect for others) Respect - a high regard for someone or something.

19 Maintenance of Positive Human Relationships
Values, morals, and ethics are essential to the growth and maintenance of positive human relationships. Value - a standard or belief. Working hard, honesty and close family relationships Moral - standards of right and wrong. Ethics - the method of right or good conduct.

20 Discrimination When an individual is treated differently on the basis of their real or presumed association with some class or group of person. Examples: race, religion, political opinion, ethnic background, social origin, sex, marital status, family status, age, sexual orientation.
