The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS) sets out the learning and development stages for children as they grow from birth to five years. For those working in the early years - whether in a nursery, pre-school, a childminder or in a reception class in school - the EYFS outlines what they need to do to support your child.

13 What is the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile?
The EYFSP is a statutory assessment of your child’s development and achievement at the end of the Reception year.

14 Purpose of the EYFSP

15 The final outcome

16 The final outcome (an example)
40 – 60+ months Recognises numerals 1 to 5. Counts objects to 10, and beginning to count beyond 10. Finds the total number of items in 2 groups by counting all of them Find 1 more/1 less from a group of up to 5 objects, then 10 objects  Early Learning Goals: Children count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.  Exceeding: Children estimate a number of objects and check quantities by counting up to 20. They solve practical problems that involve combining groups of 2, 5 or 10, or sharing into equal groups.

20 Next steps… Improving further by working together
To obtain a complete picture of a child, the practitioner, parent and child should all contribute to the child’s EYFS profile. This is based on the understanding that: school is only part of a child’s life experience children learn outside the school setting and respond variably to different people, places and events parent’s insights and wealth of knowledge about their children is an integral part to building the picture of their child’s learning and development within a supportive and empowering environment children can be capable assessors of their own learning and development.

21 How can you help? An important part of the EYFS Profile is your knowledge about your child’s learning and development, so do let your child’s class teacher know about what your child does with you at home. Some ideas include: Skills/hobbies/interests e.g. baking, football New achievements e.g. swimming certificates Creating things at home e.g. models, art work Places visited

22 Next steps… Use our open door policy
