Poster Title 108pt Arial Bold
Subtitle 72pt Arial Steps to Create a MS PowerPoint Poster Open MS PowerPoint software Choose File, New Presentation Choose File, Page Setup Under ‘Size’, look for ‘Slides sized for:’ From the drop down menu, select ‘Custom’ and then enter the ‘Width’ and ‘Height’ of your poster, in inches, in the appropriate text boxes. Click ‘OK’ to create new document. Your poster cannot be larger than 36 inches on either the x or y dimension, due to the fixed size of the large-format roll paper. Be sure to leave a ½ inch between your design and the edge of the poster to accommodate printer margins. Because you do not have the large format printer drivers loaded on your computer, you may see a warning box asking to let PowerPoint ‘Fix’ your document size; just click ‘OK’ to save your poster dimensions as entered. To create the title of your poster, select the text box tool and click at the top of the poster. Click on the edge of the text box until the dotted margin appears then drag from the corner of text box until it fits from one side of the poster to the other. Type your title text here. Title font size will be around 108 points. Repeat and create a second attribution text box (under the title text box) with its font size around points. Save your PowerPoint file as a PDF and both the PPT and the PDF to your engineering account. Unfortunately we can no longer allow users to bring files to us on USB flash drives due to the prevalence of malicious software. When you are ready to print, come by Multimedia in A335 during office hours, and ask for assistance printing your poster. We will give you access to webmail on the WIN desktop we print from so that you can save your poster file to the hard drive and open to review for cross-platform, font and software version conflicts. Once you have approved the document as good-to-print, we will save and queue your poster to the large format printer. It takes an average of minutes to print most 36”x 48” posters. If you have used 100% ink coverage, and/or a lot of images, it will take longer to spool and print. We recommend a white background, with no edge-to-edge background images. DESIGN NOTE: If you are creating a poster from resources other than individual PPT slides, please re-size all images to 100% of the desired placed size before inserting, to prevent raster image processing (RIP) problems. Image resolution should be no bigger than 300dpi; 150dpi is preferred.
