1 How to become a Registered Nurse
Hyerin’s Career Path How to become a Registered Nurse

2 My Career Goals I want to become a Registered Nurse by 2024.
To get there, I will need to: Graduate high school by June, 2018. Pursue further studies in a nursing program at recognized college. Gain more than 100 hours of volunteer experience in a hospital by the end of my nursing program

3 What is a Registered Nurse?
RN's provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and the public about various health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members. As a RN, I would regularly evaluate and record patient symptoms, coordinate patient care, take vital signs and keep track of patients’ medical information.

4 About my future career Registered nurses usually work in hospitals, physicians’ offices, home healthcare services, nursing care facilities, patients’ homes, schools, or outpatient clinics. Some serve in the military. The average national salary for this career is $66,000 . RN’s that work 8 to 10 hour days typically work about 40 hours or so per week, however nurses that work 12 hour days may end up working around 36 hours per week. Registered nurses work shifts meaning that their schedules change regularly.

5 My job has a 14.5% chance of becoming automated
An important part of a Nursing job requires the formation of trust and close relationships with patients and their guardians. Each patient has their own needs and nurses need to be accommodating to different kinds of help. Robots are different from people in the sense that they do not have feelings and accommodating each individual needs in different ways may be too complex. These reasons are why this job is likely not going to be automated in the near future.

6 Registered nurse would be great for me because I have…
Good problem-solving skills, good judgment and patience The ability to work cooperatively with other members of the health care team Outstanding organizational Skills

7 I am not quite ready for this career, but I will get there!
These are skills for the job I still need to learn: This is how I will get those necessary skills: Advanced English language skills and the ability to communicate effectively with staff and patients Through volunteering, I will practice communicating with others in a hospital and learning related vocabulary. A strong knowledge base in biological, psycho-social and nursing sciences I will take many nursing courses to expand my knowledge in health science.

8 This is what appeals to me with this career…
I love learning new things and helping people. I want to be a nurse because I can get the chance of helping others, gain medical knowledge to help others get or stay healthy, variety on the job and no repetitive tasks.

9 These are some things I find less appealing about this career…
Nursing is naturally a stressful job and stress in nurses can cause depression. Factors that cause stress for nurses are unrealistic expectations by their managers, peers and patients, heavy workloads, time pressure , and all that sort of things.

10 Potential obstacles to getting this career
The possible obstacles: My plan to overcome them: Post-secondary schools require high quality of English skills to apply for Nursing program. Be confident and speak as often as possible to as many people as I possibly can in English and learn new words with example sentences .  Pass the National Council Licensure Examination for RNs (NCLEX-RN). Take advantage of resources that provide practice test questions, study guides and flashcards. Also, find the study method that works for me.

11 Potential obstacles to being successful within this career
The possible obstacles: My plan to overcome them: conflicts in nursing relationships Collaborating to find a mutual solution when both sets of interests are too important to be compromised Stressful environment Maintaining a routine of regular exercise and good nutrition and continuing in faith practices, which provide a steady focus and centering

12 The training/education required for my career is:
RNs must be licensed to practice, a process that requires that they complete an accredited nursing program and pass the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses, or NCLEX-RN. Also, complete a bachelor’s nursing degree program.

Adress: 7600 Glover Road Langley, BC V2Y 1Y1, Canada Program: Bachelor of Science in Nursing Certification: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Length: 4-years Cost: $740 per sem. hr.

15 Financial Plan I am going to pay for my program:
I should have to get the help of my family but I try make money by work. I will apply for a work permit and work during breaks and in the summer.
