2 Agenda Status Update and Timeline Drivers: Barrier’s to a Merger
One association to serve the community of Richmond Declining Enrollment in Richmond Midget and Bantam Academies Higher Expectations – How do we meet those needs? Barrier’s to a Merger Open Floor Discussion

3 Current Status With support of the Richmond and Seafair Boards, a small working group has been formed with Richmond to explore the idea of becoming one minor hockey association. Their has been many attempts to get to one association in the past, and it has failed for various reasons. One of the things that we wanted to do was to make sure we reach out the membership to create dialogue on the subject. Working towards a vote by the membership on the subject in the spring of Would be in effect for the 2018/2019 season. We held two parent meetings prior to Christmas Richmond is hold meetings on Feb 20 and Feb 22

4 Timeline Seafair AGM 2017 – vote on transitioning to the new Societies Act (75% + 1 is needed). Seafair AGM 2017 – vote on allowing the new Board for the 2017/2018 to enter formal discussions regarding amalgamation. Seafair EGM– vote on amalgamating with RMHA (66 2/3%). Vote is predicated upon having all documentation regarding the policies, constitution and by-laws ready to be presented. Vote would be Spring 2017

5 Recent Survey Results from January 2017 of Seafair members:
428 responders 65% Yes 23% No 12% Yes with conditions…….

7 New Drivers: Changing Landscape
Right Things to Do? Community of Richmond End of the Rivalry and potential issues for players that may take place in other settings (ie. school) Opportunity to build a strong association at every level moving forward New Drivers: Changing Landscape Declining Enrollments (Fewer young families moving to Richmond) which creates issues on many levels Bantam and Midget Academies and Zone Teams Trend of increasing paid positions at all levels in minor sports, which is a challenge when want to keep things reasonable in terms of cost. Less volunteerism Higher Expectations

8 Financial (Gaming Grant)?
Barriers Financial (Gaming Grant)? Fees? Who will be the skill provider? Program Design? Name? Jersey Colors and Logo? Impact to your son or daughter?

9 Need to learn from others…….
Baseball and Soccer in Richmond have already gone through a merger process to get to one association in their respective sports They faced “challenges” but found a way to get to one association
