1 Corsage and Boutonniere
Using the same set of flowers to design the fourth in a series of floral arrangements.

2 Purpose To design and create a corsage and boutonniere set using the same flowers as the prior lessons. Using appropriate design elements we can create a wearable work of art.

3 Materials Gather the materials from the centerpiece design. You will need: 4 carnations 2 small pieces of filler flower 4 small pieces of leather leaf fern Some items new to this design: Floral tape Green enameled florist wire gauge 24 Ribbon for a bow Other decorative accessories as available

4 Steps to Create Start by preparing 4 boutonniere sets.
Pierce and wire each carnation and tape to cover the mechanics. Then prepare a piece of fern and filler to add, and then tape again. Repeat until all 4 carnations are prepared.

5 Steps, continued Make a bow to insert to the corsage.
Depending on students abilities, some may decide to ribbon wrap the base of the corsage and boutonniere or create smaller loops to add for accent.

6 Steps, continued To finish the boutonniere, simply cut wires to appropriate length – typically 1-2 inches. Then cover with tape to conceal mechanics. Add finishing touches as appropriate. To finish the corsage, start with the smallest carnation set for the top of the design. Add the second boutonniere set, slightly lower than the first. Align the carnation petals just below the calyx of the first. Add the bow between the second and third carnation. Add the final flower by flipping the flower upside down. Place it below the bow to finish the design. Be sure to eliminate wires as you proceed through the corsage. At the base, cut the remaining wires to 1 inch. Cover with tape and add any finishing touches.

7 Other Options The steps can be followed for other flower types as well – such as roses, gerberas, etc. although wiring techniques may differ. Accessories can be added for prom or weddings. There are many options for ribbon techniques.

8 Prepare a Work Sample Take a photo of your finished design
Take notes of your steps in the design process, review any needed changes Consider constructive criticism from others What changes would you make next time?
