ILAC Indicators 2004: The Working Group on Environmental Indicators (WGEI) is established and the first indicators framework for monitoring ILAC targets is defined (38 indicators) SEMARNAT (Mexico) assumes the presidency of the WGEI Main environmental indicators framework for Latin America and the Caribbean More than 20 country reports published, national information systems implemented Input for GEO Assessments at national and regional levels Regional technical cooperation – coordination with other global and regional initiatives on environmental information

Sustainable consumption and Production Indicators: Experts Meeting – CAF Technical cooperation (August 2016) Webinar Regional Council SCP (November 2016) South-South Cooperation (Ministry of Environment of Brazil-Itamaraty-IBGE): WGEI Experts Meeting in Brasilia (December 2016) Updating of ILAC WGEI focal points Harmonization and priorization of ILAC / SDG indicators Establishment of 5 technical working groups for LA (weekly meetings July – October 2017) Organization of webinars and enhancement of technical collaboration between countries. Meeting of Caribbean focal points (Port of Spain, October 2017)

Prioritized Indicators. Metadata revised and approved by WGEI (as of October 2017) SDG Renewable energy share in the total final energy consumption ODS Energy intensity measured in terms of primary energy and GDP ODS Domestic material consumption, domestic material consumption per capita, and domestic material consumption per GDP ODS Proportion of urban solid waste regularly collected and with adequate final discharge out of total urban solid waste generated, by cities ODS Annual mean levels of fine particulate matter (e.g. PM2.5 and PM10) in cities (population weighted) ODS Coverage of protected areas in relation to marine areas ILAC Proportion of terrestrial and marine areas protected SDG Proportion of population using safely managed drinking water services ILAC Proportion of population using improved sanitation facilities ODS Level of water stress: freshwater withdrawal as a proportion of available freshwater resources ILAC Proportion of national territory with land use plans ILAC Production of Vulnerability and Risk Atlas at national level
