2 Our Solar System Each planet goes around (orbits) the sun. Mercury has a circular orbit and the rest of the planets have an oval orbit. Our solar system is made up of the sun and eight known planets.

3 The Planets in the Solar System
Mercury; Venus; Earth; Mars; Jupiter; Saturn; Uranus;

4 Mercury Mercury is the closest planet to the sun.
It is the smallest planet. It has no known moons.

5 Mercury Facts Average distnce from the sun is 57.9 million kilometres.
The average orbiting speed is kilometres per second. Diameter 4,878 km Mass 3.30e23 kg

6 Venus Venus is the second planet from the sun.
It is the sixth largest planet. It has no known moons.

7 Venus Facts Average distance from the sun is 108.2 million kilometres.
The average orbiting speed is kilometres per second. Diameter 12,103.6 km Mass e24 kg

8 The Earth The Earth is the third planet from the sun.
It is the fifth largest planet. It is the only planet, as far as we know, to have life on it now. The Earth has one moon, which is called the Moon or Luna.

9 The Earth Facts Average distance from the sun is million kilometres. The average orbiting speed is kilometres per second. Diameter 12,756.3 km Mass 5.972e24 kg

10 Mars Mars is the fourth planet frmo the sun. It is the seventh largest planet. Mars has two moons called Phobos and Deimos.

11 Mars Facts Average distance from the sun is 227.9 million kilometres.
The average orbiting speed is kilometres per second. Diameter km Mass e23 kg

12 Jupiter Jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun.
It is the largest planet. It is vry large when it is compared to the other planets. Jupiter has lots of moons orbiting the planet and new ones are still being discovered. There are four large moons and at least 45 smaller ones.

13 Jupiter Facts Average distance from the sun is 778,330,000 kilometres.
The average orbiting speed is kilometres per second. Diameter 142,984 km Mass e27 kg

14 Saturn Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun.
It is the second largest planet. Saturn has a lot of moons. 33 have been discovered and some more may be discovered in the future.

15 Saturn Facts Average distance from the sun is 1,427 million kilometres. The average orbiting speed is 9.64 kilometres per second. Diameter 120,536 km Mass 5.68e26 kg

16 Uranus Uranus is the seventh planet from the sun. It is the third largest planet. It is larger in diameter than Neptune, but smaller in mass. Uranus has a lot of moons. 21 moons have been discovered and others may be discovered in the future.

17 Average distance from the sun is 2,875 million kilometres.
The average orbiting speed is 6.8 kilometres per second. Diameter 51,118 km Mass e25 kg
