The metric system is a measurement system developed by France.
The metric system provided the a measurement system that:
Universal Measurement System
(understood throughout the world)
Eliminated Fractions
Based on the number 10 (easy conversions)

3. Metric System (cont.)
The metric system is based off of certain base units of different types of measurement.
The base units are: grams (mass), liters (volume), meters (distance), seconds (time)
The base units represent the center of the metric system.
The system also uses prefixes to describe measurements that are smaller or larger compared to the base.
