1 What would you do? Pretend that lying in front of me there is an I beam – a large steel beam used in constructing buildings and highway overpasses. This beam is 120 feet long, 6 inches wide on the top and bottom, and is 1 foot above the ground. let’s say I ask you to stand on one end of the beam while I stand on the other end. Then, I pull out a $100 bill and tell you that if you walk across this beam without stepping off either side I’ll give you this $100. What do you do?

2 Split into groups! Now… What if it was $10,000?
Pretend that instead of lying on the floor the beam is spanning the distance between the roofs of the Petronas towers in kuala lumpur, malaysia, which are 1322 feet off of the ground. These buildings sway slightly, there is a 40 mph wind blowing, and it is raining. With no safety devices in place, if I now invited you to walk across the beam for a $100 would you cross? What if it was $10,000? What if it was $100,000? What if it was $1,000,000?

3 Forget about the money…
Let’s say a kidnapper has your little sister or someone else you care a lot about on the other side. Now would you cross? What would you cross for?

4 With your group… Make a list of the top five, non-negotiable, things you would cross the beam for. The entire group must agree on 5 things. You must come up with one more thing on your own!

5 Journal What am I doing during the times that I feel most happy? Why does it make me happy? What would I do if I knew I only had a few months to live? Who would I spend my time with?
