DO YOU KNOW? Human resources like other resources are not equally distributed over the world. They differ in their e ducational levels age and sex. THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA HAS A MINISTRY OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT.

DISTRIBUTION OF POPULATION
Extremely uneven. Some areas are crowded and some are sparsely populated. More than 90% of population of the world lives in about 10% of the land surface. Sixty percent of the world,s people stay in just ten countries. Many people live in north of fquator than the south. Almost three-quarters of people live in two continents ASIA and AFRICA.

DENSITY OF POPULATION density refers the number of people living in a unit areaof the earth.’s surface.It is expressed as per square km. South central Asia has the highest density Next is East and South Asia. INDIA has the average density of 324 persons per sq’ km.

FACTORS AFFEECTING DISTRIBUTION OF POPULATION
topography,climate,soil,water , minerals are the geographical factors. Education, health,religions,culture.and employment opportunities are the socio-cultural and economic factors.

POPULATION CHANGE It refers to change in the number of people during a specific time. In 1820, the world population reached one billion .In 1970s it was 3 billion. In1999 the Population doubled to 6 billion.

DEFINITIONS BIRTH RATE----THE NUMBER LIVE BIRTHSPER 1000 PEOPLE.
DEATH RATE---THE NUMBER OF DEATHS PER 1000PEOPLE. NATURAL GROWTH RATE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IHE BIRTH RATE AND DEATH RATE OFA COUNTRY. MIGRATIONN---THE MOVEMENT OF PEOPLE IN AND AROUND AREA.

PATTERNS OF POPULATION CHANGE
RATES OF POPULATION VARY. COUNTRIES LIKE KENYA HAVE HIGH POPULATION GROWTH RATES. IN COUNTRIES LIKE U.S.AGROWTH IS SLOW BECAUSE OF LOW BIRTH S AND LOW DEATHS.

PEOPLE VARY IN THEIR AGE, SEX,LITERACY LEVELHEALTH CONDITIONOCCUPATION AND INCOME LEVEL.,HEALTH CONDITION. IT HELP US TO KNOW ABOUTNUMBER OF MALES AND FEMALES,THEIR AGE GROUPS, EDUCATIONAL LEVELS.OCCUPATIONS ETC.

POPULATION PYRAMID I tells us hoe many dependents there are in a country.It shows the various age groups like 5 to 9years 10 to 14 years. The percentage of males and females are shown. We can compare with one country to another.

Mention any four causes for the uneven distribution of population. Define the terms; birth rate, death rate, natural growth rate and migrations. What are population pyramids.?
