2 Ideology of Fascism The main idea of facism was to destroy “the will” of the individual in favor of “the people” (Bulliets pg 773) Which meant rejection of liberal ideas such as freedom and individual rights, and often presses for the destruction of elections, legislatures, and other elements of democracy. (Princeton Review Book pg 244) Fascists pushed for another identity, one rooted in extreme nationalism which often relied on racial identity (Princeton Review Book pg 244) The term was first used by Benito Mussolini which means union and is also the ancient Roman symbol of power.( Italian Fascist Flag (

4 The Rise Of Hitler Leader of the Nazis, he wrote Mein Kampf a book explaining his ideas and beliefs while in jail, which many found to be to extreme in 1933 Hitler suspended the constitution, abolished the presidency, and declared himself Germany's Führer (Princeton Review Book pg ) he glorified violence and war and wanting to get back for all the humiliations from the treaty of Versailles (Bulliets pg 775) taking advantage from the depression, the Nazis gained support from people unemployed with the promise of jobs and Hitler was elected Governor (Bulliets pg 775) by following social Darwinism, Hitler was convinced that the Aryan (German) race was the most highly evolved race and that inferior races such as the Slavs corrupted the German race (Princeton review Book pg 246) He reserved most of his hatred towards Jews and believed in the deportation which later turn into the massacre of Jews (Bulliets pg ) Hitler was able to insert his fascist vision of the new Germany into a highly receptive political culture.
