MSSC: ADDED FOCUS ON SECONDARY
: Focus on Community Colleges. Materials deemed too difficult for HS : Companies began asking for HS grads with CPT or CLT 2014: NAM Board-level Task Force recommendation to manufacturers to use MSSC CPT or engage with secondary schools

MSSC RESPONSE Strengthen partnerships with large organizations in secondary schools: ACT, SkillsUSA, Battelle for Kids Promote dual credit between HS and CC Promote awareness of industry certifications among HS career counselors Commission White Paper, “Transforming Career Counseling” Called for all students to have Personalized Career Plans by Grade 9 Assisted by certified career counselors

BARRIERS Survey of HS superintendents showed little awareness of industry certifications Only 3% ranked “Counseling” an important influence on career decisions (Mfg. Institute/Skills USA report, Sept. 2015) 500:1 student to counselor ratio

Launch national communications campaign to create commitment to career development Provide career development to all young adults by embracing a systemic approach Work with the Chambers and workforce boards to expand business and industry engagement Professionalize career development by improving training and credentialing for counselors, career coordinators and educators

CAREER DEVELOPMENT CERTIFICATIONS
Development of 3 new NCDA certifications: School-based Career Development Advisor County/ State Career Development Coordinator Career Development Teacher. Training of at least 25 professionals to achieve Advisor/Coordinator certification Placement and evaluation of certified professionals to assess impact of certification
