1. Overall suicide deaths in 2014: 42,773. That’s 117 suicides a day.
It has been said on average, 6 people are impacted by each suicide, that’s 256,000 people each year.
Most alarming is it is the 2nd leading cause of death in young people.

2. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for our kids 10 to 14 years old. From 1999 to 2014 suicide increased 75% for 10 to 14 year olds.

6. This is tragic problem on a national scale that does not get the attention it should…
Awareness and fundraising is everywhere for cancer, Alzheimer's, etc… These are terrible diseases and of course are very worthy causes. But are they the 2nd leading cause of death for 10 to 34 year olds? Why is suicide not talked about with at least as much frequency and concern?

From 2008 to 2013 it was 3rd leading cause of death with cancer being second.

8. ***The 1st cause of death (unintentional) DECREASED by 54% during the same time frame. Is the sharp increase in suicides because they were previously reported as unintentional? Has suicide been the 2nd cause of death in year olds for longer than we know? Either way, these stats are alarming.

9. From 1999 to 2014 suicide has increased 29% for 15 to 24 year olds.
In 2011 suicide surpassed homicide as the 2nd leading cause of death.

10. From 1999 to 2014 with the exception of 2001, suicide has been the 2nd leading cause of death.

11. From 1999 to 2014 suicide has increased by 4%.
Suicide has been the 4th leading cause of death since 1999.

12. From 2001 to 2014 suicide has increased by 48% for 45 to 54 year olds.
In 2001 suicide surpassed Cerebrovascular (stroke) to be the 5th leading cause of death.

13. For ages 55-64, suicide is not in the top 5 leading causes of death.
