Dallas is a very big city with a lot of things to see and do!

The State Fair of Texas Since 1886, Dallas has hosted the State Fair of Texas. It is the largest state fair in the United States. It is estimated that over 3 million people visit the fair every year. School children from all over the Dallas area are given the day off and a free ticket to attend the fair. The fair also is the home of the Texas Star, the largest ferris wheel in North America. The fair also has a livestock exhibit, food exhibit, concerts and auto show.

Big Tex has greeted visitors to the fair since 1956.
He is a 52 foot cowboy whose hinged mouth opens to say, “Howdy, Folks! Welcome to the State Fair of Texas!” Throughout the day, Big Texas will make announcement of fair activities.

One of the highlights of the state fair is the “Red River Rivalry”
One of the highlights of the state fair is the “Red River Rivalry”. It is a football game between the University of Texas Longhorn and the University of Oklahoma Sooners. The game is always played on the first weekend in October and always in the famous Cotton Bowl Stadium.

The State Fair would not be the same without the MIDWAY! Games, rides and food galore await all who enter the gate.

East Texas is home to the Piney Woods, a temperate forest thick with pine trees and lakes. White tail deer also make their home here.

Spindletop Oilfield This is picture of a Spindletop oil well that found oil under East Texas soil near Beaumont, TX. The drilling company used a new type of rotary drill bit to drill into the ground and unleashed a geyser that reached over 150 feet high. The oil well was capped nine days later. The world had never seen such a gusher!

Cotton is a crop that is grown in East Texas.

When the cotton is ready to pick, the fields look white like they are covered with snow. The cotton is taken to a factory where is it turned into thread, clothing, sheets and other items.
