Presentation on theme: "Reflect across the y-axis"— Presentation transcript:

1 Using the rules you wrote down in class draw the indicated transformation

2 Reflect across the y-axis

3 Reflect across the y-axis
Notice that the shape flips the direction it was facing. The distance from the pre-image point to the line of reflection (y-axis) is the same distance from the line of reflection to the image point. A’ E’ D’ C’ B’

4 Rotate the figure 180º about the origin.

5 Rotate the figure 180º about the origin.
C’ D’ Notice that the line you would draw from the pre-image point to its matching point would go the same distance to the origin and out the same distance forming a straight line which is a 180 degree angle.

6 Reflect the figure in the x-axis.

7 Reflect the figure in the x-axis.
B’ C’ D’ Notice that the pre-image points are each the same distance from the line of reflection (x-axis) as their matching image points. For example, B & C are one block from the line and B’ & C’ are one block away.

8 Translate the figure 7 units to the right and 4 units down.

9 Translate the figure 7 units to the right and 4 units down.
B’ C’ D’ Point A moved 7 right and 4 down to become A’. Point B moved 7 right and 4 down to become B’. Point C moved 7 right and 4 down to become C’. Point D moved 7 right and 4 down to become D’. Point E moved 7 right and 4 down to become E’.

10 Rotate the figure 90º CLOCKWISE about Point C.

11 Rotate the figure 90º CLOCKWISE about Point C.
D’ Point C stayed where it was and the shape looks like it fell over. The point of rotation stayed where it was and the rest of the moved 90 degrees clockwise. If you drew a line from A to C the to A’, it would make a 90° angle. If you drew a line from B to C the to B’, it would make a 90° angle.

12 Rotate the figure 90º CLOCKWISE about the origin and then reflect it over the x-axis.

13 Rotate the figure 90º CLOCKWISE about the origin and then reflect it over the x-axis.
I picked a point, drew a line to the origin, turned 90 degrees and drew a line out to a corresponding point. After I put all image points, I flipped the figure over the x-axis.
