Our school was founded in 1997. We are about 1000 pupils from grade 5 to 13. Boys and girls from all social and ethnic backgrounds are welcome. We learn together according to our various experiences, interests and expectations. At our school we are taught knowledge, abilities and skills in various subjects. Apart from formal teaching we have practical project weeks.
3
From our first day at school until the end of grade 10 we belong to one of four classes. Each class is taught and led through school life by two equal form teachers. As we have free choice about some subjects and extra-curricular activities we are able to develop our own skills and personalities. From Day One our teachers (try to) instil mutual respect and friendliness.
4
At our school we get tasks for each week in the main subjects. We have got extra lessons for these tasks supervised by our teachers. If we dont succeed in completing our work we have to finish it in another special lesson called Silentium, which, of course, we dont like.
5
Foreign languages are taught through all grades. We start with English (grade 5), French (grade 7), Latin (grade 9), and Italian (grade 11, Sixth Form). We have flourishing partnerships with schools in France, Italy and Hungary.
6
We are working with an innovative concept called Pupils help pupils. In the so-called we can use books and the internet to improve our personal knowledge with the extended help of parents and teachers. And if we have problems we have a so-called Klassenrat (weekly class conferencing), organized by us pupils, in which we can talk about everything in class. Furthermore there some students (Streitschlichter) with a special training where we can go to cope with our problems.
7
During lunch break (from 12.20 to 13.15) lunch is provided. We can have our choice between two menus: sharing a meal together is an important social factor.
8
On Wednesdays or Thursdays we take part in extra- curricular activities, which we have chosen at the beginning of the school year. These activities are not only guided by teachers but by parents, too. Choices of activities are given in sport, art, music, science and handicrafts.
9
From grade 7 on we are differentiated according to our individual abilities and interests. The first different course-levels are in English and Mathematics and then in German and Chemistry. The fourth required main subject is chosen by us to help us to develop our own interests: French, Natural Science, Music and Arts and a combination of Economy, Technology, Domestic Science and Job Preparation. All these subjects are of equal weight and play an important role in the school qualifications at the end of grade 10.
10
Students at our school can achieve the following secondary qualifications: General Certificate of Secondary Education after grade 9 or 10 Qualified General Certificate of Secondary Education (grades 11-13) A-levels after grade 13
11
Tolerance and community are important for us We learn to make constructive solutions and we talk to each other We cooperate and are organized in teams where we choose ways of learning, ways of solving problems We want to achieve good results We are encouraged to make experiences and learn with partners in our community, in the region and above all beyond the border We do this because many things in our world today, such as the European Union and globalisation, demand that we develop a sense of the larger world we live in.
