Georgia Fitness Assessment

O.C.G.A. § (a)(1) Beginning in the school year, each local school system shall conduct an annual fitness assessment program, as approved and funded by the State Board of Education, one time each school year for students in grades one through 12, to be conducted only during a physical education course that is taught by a certificated physical education teacher in which a student is enrolled.

O.C.G.A. § Such assessments shall include methods deemed by the State Board of Education as appropriate to ascertain levels of student physical fitness. Each local school system shall report the individual results of the fitness assessment to the parent or guardian of each student assessed and the aggregate results of the fitness assessments by school to the State Board of Education annually in a format approved and funded by the State Board of Education.

O.C.G.A. § (2) Each local school system shall be required to provide at least the minimum instruction in physical education prescribed by the State Board of Education in rules and regulations established pursuant to subsection (c) of Code Section

O.C.G.A. § The Governor may collaborate with private corporations in the development and implementation of recognition programs pursuant to this subsection, including providing monetary or other incentives to local school systems or schools for attaining certain levels of health status. All local school systems or schools receiving acknowledgment through a recognition program established by the Governor pursuant to this subsection shall also be recognized on the State Board of Education's website.

Exemption Codes The following codes are available
10 Absent – absent on all test dates and all make-up sessions 11 Student is not enrolled in this PE class 12 Medical excuse 13 Student in multiple PE classes – assessed in different PE course 14 Other

Exemption Codes (cont.)
The only time a student should be allowed non-participation in an assignment and the corresponding score be left blank is when the non participation aligns to local school system practice, policy and/or procedure as it relates to participation in physical education class and physical activity Example: a local system requires a note from an MD for a student to be exempted from strenuous activities. The same should be in place before permitting a student to miss a portion of the FG assessment

FERPA The parties will safeguard the confidentiality of the student data as required by the Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other applicable laws and regulations. No release of data, reports, information, or output of any kind based on the data will include any information that could be identifiable or linked to a specific person.
