1 Grantham College SU Election 16/17

2 Are you sociable? Would you like to plan fun events and clubs within College for students?
Do you have a passion for students rights or want to represent the students here? Maybe you would like to start up a particular society in College and put yourself forward to be its Officer because you have a passion in that area? Maybe you want to be part of the SU but you would rather have a quieter role….

3 If any of these sound like you, get involved!
There is a role suitable for anyone in the SU and you can have a look at each role’s job description on the VLE for more information.

4 What is an SU? SU stands for ‘Student Union’.
The SU will represent and be a voice for students at College and will pass on any students problems or ideas to College staff members to be actioned. We work closely with NUS who tell us about different student led campaigns going on so that we can get involved. A Student Union will help organise social events around College too

5 …maybe a cheesy chips and quiz night?
…an end of year Alton Towers trip? …popcorn and movie night? …karaoke night? …Christmas disco? We will consider anything within reason.

6 Society ideas? How about… A Food Appreciation Society?
A Grantham College Football society? A Grantham College Fashion Society? A Grantham College Rugby Society? A Grantham College Vintage Crafts Society? We will consider anything within reason.

7 What makes up an SU? An SU will be made up of the President, Vice President, and Officers. The SU President and Vice President oversee the SU and Officers as a whole, and Officers will be in charge of a certain society or area of the SU that needs overlooking. Everyone will help out when organising or coming up with ideas for fun student events or fundraisers. We will also run a SU Surgery fortnightly, so that students have the chance to come and chat with us about anything they want you to bring up with staff. Here are the roles we are recruiting for this year....

8 President Disabled Student Officer (position already filled)
Vice President Admin Officer Welfare Officer LGBT+ Officer (position already filled) Societies Officer Mature Students Officer Entertainment Officer Apprenticeship Officer Events Officer

9 Why should I get involved?
Reason one is obvious- you’ll have fun! Reason two, it can look good on a CV or UCAS application to show you have had responsibilities! Reason three, if you’re looking to go to Uni the SU is a massive part of student life, so you can get involved here first!

10 How do I get involved? Please speak to Amy Goswell, the Student Engagement Officer. She sits on the Advice and Guidance desk most of the time, or if you’d rather her, you can get her on

11 You will need to fill in an application form (which Amy can provide for you) to apply for the SU. You will also need to write a manifesto, essentially a list of promises explaining what you will do for the students and why they should vote for you. There will then be a really fun ‘Campaign Week’ for you to get people’s votes, you could do some of the following ideas- Give out cakes, with your face on the icing topper, obviously Give out badges with your vote slogan on Film a funny video about why students should vote for you Stick posters around College with your vote slogan & promises to students

12 After the Campaign Week, voting will be opened on the VLE for all students. When the voting date closes those with the most votes will be announced, winning the role they applied for.

13 We hope to hear from you soon!
If you want lots of fun and opportunities during your time here, then get involved! We hope to hear from you soon!
