A new baby can make a big impact on your life.
Some mothers feel alone, unhappy or anxious. Some experience low mood and worry that they might be depressed. Some feel that they cannot cope, struggle to care for their baby, find it hard to love their baby and cannot see any way out. There is help and support available. The first step is to tell someone, a partner, relative, friend, your Health Visitor or GP. The right help for you could include; medication, counselling, CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), self-help strategies, exercise or a group. The Bucks Postnatal Wellbeing Group may be appropriate for you, as some mothers find it helpful to talk to other women who understand how they are feeling and can share different ways of coping in a safe and non judgmental environment. This 10 week structured group is designed to help mothers struggling with depression and anxiety. (Crèche provided) Initially you will be referred to a therapist for a brief assessment to ensure the group is suitable for you. (Alternative options may be offered)
