2. Living Things
All living things can be classified, or sorted into groups
These groups are called kingdoms
There are 5 kingdoms
Monerans, Protists, Fungi, Plants, and Animals
We know the most about plants and animals

3. Monerans The smallest kingdom
They include blue-green algae, bacteria, and viruses
They are single-celled, no nucleus
Help us digest food
Can cause disease!

4. Fungi Not green-do not have chlorophyll Cannot make own food
Feed on the remains of dead plants and animals
They include mushrooms, mildew, and moulds

5. Protists “Leftovers” One-celled Multi-celled as well
They include amoeba, giant sea kelp, and protozoa

6. Plants The green kingdom Make own food with photosynthesis
Vascular plants have tubes
Nonvascular plants no tubes: absorb!
Mosses, ferns, flowering plants, conifers

7. Animals There many different types of animals in the world.
Animals can be classified based on their similarities.
Invertebrates: animals with NO backbone
Vertebrates: animals WITH backbone
