1 Avon Class Newsletter Summer Term 2017 Forest School Literacy Maths
For the remaining time of this academic year the children will be going to Forest School once a week. We will be learning while exploring the environment. Sometimes we will do more structured activities with the children and on other occasions the children will have more independent choices to make. Please see our class page for photos of our adventures in Forest School. Literacy Following on from our Warwick Castle trip we will be learning all about castles during this term. The children will be looking at the features of the castle building such as drawbridge and portcullis as well as learning about the lives of people who lived and worked within the castle walls. Maths This term the children will develop their number and shape skills through our castle work. For example they will create repeating patterns for a kings crown or using 3D shapes to create the tallest tower. We are also continuing to work on addition, subtracting and sharing. Knowledge of the world – This term children will be learning all about life in the past. Expressive arts and design – The children will explore sounds, songs and music throughout the term linked to our topics. PSED – Throughout this term we will particularly focussing on our family and customs. R.E - Children will be exploring the key question of this term which is ‘What times are special?’ Who helps us? Next half term we will be starting a new topic – people who help us. If any parents / family members would be willing to come to talk to Avon class about their job in the ‘helping’ professions please let Miss Aucock or Mrs Roden know. It would be fantastic for the children to hear about your job and have the opportunity to ask you lots of questions. Reading Please continue to read with your child as much as possible at home. The importance of regular reading both at home and at school is invaluable. The children will be bringing home spellings over the forthcoming weeks to practise with you at home. These will be spellings of more unusual words which are tricky to sound out such as he, she, the, my. Your support with this will be much appreciated.
