I graduated from Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana in I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Mathematics, as well as a Mathematics and Junior High/Middle School Endorsement.
My Master’s Degree in Reading Curriculum is from Grand Canyon University.
This is my 18th year teaching 5th grade!

3. Math4Today
Math4Today is given on Tuesday. This sheet has four days of bell work problems and is used for a mini lesson/review. Students complete the problems for the day and we go over them. They should be taking notes on this sheet.
Monday an assessment sheet is given over the problems from the week. Students may use their weekly Math4Today sheet on the assessment, which is why it is important they make any necessary notes on this sheet to help them.
This weekly assessment counts as a classwork grade.

4. Math-opedia
These notes are taken in their math composition book. This is their “instruction manual” for math. They should be bringing their notebook home every night to use as a guide for completing homework and reviewing the daily lesson.
At the end of each nine weeks, students are given a checklist of all items that were added during that grading period. It is a TEST grade at the end of each grading period!

5. Homework
Homework is given Monday-Thursday nights and is due daily. In order for students to get full credit on homework, it must be turned in on time complete and they must show all work. They may not turn in a homework assignment with answers only. I will accept late work for partial credit.
A “HOT card punch” is given for homework assignments that are completely done in pencil and on time. After twenty punches, the HOT card becomes a homework pass for one math homework assignment. Homework passes may not be used on homework given the night before a TEST because that assignment is review/study guide.

6. Tests and Quizzes
Tests are given at the end of each chapter/unit. Tests consist of word problems that are open ended, short answer, or multiple choice.
Quizzes are given to assess the student’s knowledge of information learned from objectives taught.
Students are not allowed to use their notes or a calculator, and must show all work.

7. Grades
Grading policy is in accordance with Madison County Schools; 50% daily and 50% test. Grades are entered in INOW. Graded papers are return in the students’ mailboxes. Here is a list of codes and explanation of each that you may see in INOW or on a progress report:
AB - absent; this averages as a “0”
A-absent; this neither counts toward nor against the average
NHI – not handed in; this averages as a “0”
EX – excused; homework pass or dropped assignment; this neither counts toward nor against the average

8. Attendance Attendance is very important!
It is the responsibility of the student to get all missing assignments.
Sheets are placed in the student’s mailbox, when they are absent.
Students that miss a test will need to make arrangements with me to make it up.
