2 The challenges facing us
7% of our school roll is LAC 27% of our young people 0-19 living in poverty Catchment area is in top 5% of deprivation in Scotland Catchment area responsible for 50% of recorded crime in Clackmannanshire. Aspiration – “wee county” syndrome Parental perspectives

3 How did we know where we were?
Faculty Audit Pupil Focus Groups Review of S5/6 Skills for Learning, Life & Work Faculty Audit – to identify good practice within the school, allowing us to collate information to generate future opportunities and enhance current partnerships. Pupil Focus Groups – To evaluate pupil perception of work based learning and skills gained. Review of SKLLW: to review initial year of SKLLW and establish success and areas for development. Parent Audit – to evaluate how informed parents were of practice within the school and begin to generate network of further parental engagement. Parent Audit and evaluation of links with SDS/FVC

Why What did we plan to do? Success/barriers? To secure 1 major employer and at least 3 SME’s for every High School by Dec 2015 Enhance/increase employer engagement throughout the school in both BGE/Senior Phase Establish links and partnerships with Alloa Town Centre Business Improvement District (ATCBids) to support school events and create network for closer engagement Formed partnership with ATC Bids in May 2015 Involvement of businesses in S2 Dragon’s Den project, S4 employability mock interviews & S5 SKLLW mock interviews Generating a sustainable network to support frequency of events Balancing expectations from school & employer perspective

Why What did we plan to do? Success/barriers? Every school will have 20% of cohort engaged in work based and work linked learning activities by June 2016 Audit SKLLW programme in Senior Phase to create greater opportunities for employability awareness and evaluation of skills gained. Embed WBL and WLL within BGE and create pathways for progression in Senior Phase. Offer of College Courses S4-S6 Inclusion of Clackmannanshire works to support WLL % of pupils engaging with S4 work experience Offer of extended 6 week work experience placement in S6 Learning Through Work week Lack of Gateway placements? Support/opportunities for self found placements in S6

Why What did we plan to do? Success/barriers? 50% of Senior Phase students will be engaged in vocational learning/study towards an industry recognised pathway and/or an apprenticeship pathway by August 2017 Engage more with Clackmannanshire LEPS to increase awareness of apprenticeship opportunities and promote multiple learning pathways Targeted events using Data Hub information Forth Valley College apprenticeship events in-house What counts as vocational? Risk assessments & engagement of industries e.g. Alloa Glassworks, Lochay Homes
