Perspective BESU Established in the year 1856 as “Civil Engineering College, Calcutta”, Second oldest Engineering College of India. First Degree Examination in 1864, first time in Asia. Renamed as “Bengal Engineering College” in 1920 and became famous as B. E. College, Shibpur. Introduced Post-graduate course in Engineering in 1954, first time in India.

Perspective BESU Selected as Technical Teachers Training Institute in 1959, first time in India. Introduced Ph.D. in Engineering in 1962, first time in India. The college was converted to a Deemed University in 1992. In the year 2004, it was converted into a state University with the present name “Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur” (BESU, Shibpur).

BESU Academic and Residential Complex in a sprawling green campus of 121 acres. Three Faculties: Engineering, Applied Sciences and Social Sciences Ten Engineering Departments, Four Science Departments and Two Social Sciences Departments Two Academic and Administrative Buildings (76,520 m2) 13 Boys’ hostels (7 multi-seated, 5 single seated, 1 PG), 2 girls hostels (one multi-seated and one single-seated) 210 Faculty and Staff quarters
