3 Phases of Successful Job Interviews
1. Prepare 2. Perform 3. Follow-Up
15
Phase 1: PREPARE (before)
Research the company Asking informed questions shows interest in the job See examples: “The Road To Success” Chapter 5 Plan Responses to Common Interview Questions S – Situation T – Task A – Action R – Result Examples of questions: “The Road To Success” Chapter 5 Choose your clothing Dress for the job you want, not the job you have Business-like, pressed, conservative

Phase 2: PERFORM (during)
Arrive EARLY for the interview “To be early is to be on time. To be on time is to be late.” Turn your cell phone OFF Don’t smoke before the interview, or chew gum during the interview. Non-verbal communication is just as important Maintain eye contact, but don’t stare Lean forward, but don’t invade interviewer’s space
17
Phase 2: PERFORM (during) cont.
Be CONFIDENT and ENTHUSIASTIC Relax! You’ve prepared, you are a great candidate, but don’t be arrogant PAUSE before responding to questions Helps you form answer without being inarticulate Interview is a CONVERSATION; not a monologue Be HONEST
18
Phase 3: FOLLOW-UP (after)
Send hand-written “Thank You” Note Thank interviewer for their time Mention common interest discussed during interview
