The Father’s Heart Regarding Fathers

I. God has privileged men to share in a divine name, that of “father.”

II. God has ordained that fathers be honored by their children

“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you.” Exodus 20:12

III. Fathers can leave a legacy that can impact future generations.

A righteous man who walks in his integrity -- How blessed are his sons after him. Proverbs 20:7

The steps of a man are established by the Lord, And He delights in his way.
When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, Because the Lord is the One who holds his hand. I have been young and now I am old, Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his descendants begging bread. All day long he is gracious and lends, And his descendants are a blessing Psalm 37:23-26

A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, And the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous. Proverbs 13:22

IV. Even unbelieving fathers can have a positive impact on their children

For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her believing husband; for otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are holy I Corinthians 7:14

V. It is the Father’s will that broken relationships between fathers and their children be healed

Question: What is the last thing God says in the Old Testament?

"Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord. "He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse." Malachi 4:5-6
