ETSI EMTEL- New Chairmanship and key documents
A new EMTEL Chairman was elected end of 2007: Ken Mott from BAPCO, EMTEL deliverables on users’ requirements for scenarios covering: Communication of individuals with authorities Communication from authorities to individuals Communication between authorities Communication amongst individuals were all published. TR on Emergency calls and VoIP: possible short and long term solutions and standardisation activities. TB approved, should be published in July 2008. TR on Study on unauthenticated and unregistered access to emergency services. Currently under drafting.

ETSI EMTEL- Liaisons EMTEL has liaisons with other groups and mainly:
other ETSI TBs e.g. eHealth, RRS, TETRA, SES, MESA, TISPAN, MSG 3GPP groups e.g. SA1 and CT1 ITU-T IETF-ECRIT CoCom EGEA (Expert Group on Emergency Access) Etc … EMTEL is more and more requested to participate to 112 events, European Projects on Emergency (on broadband, interoperability), Global Organisations on Emergency (e.g. TIEMS)

Planned topics for EMTEL
A new work item will be created on Gap analysis for 112 issues. Depending on the result the EMTEL ToRs may be revised. A Liaison Statement will be sent to ERM regarding the request for the allocation of a Broadband spectrum Emergency Communication independent from any technology Satellites and emergencies Satellites can play an important role in the infrastructure, replacing terrestrial networks during outages or whilst unavailable (this is addressed within ETSI TC SES/SatEC) ETSI TC SES/SatEC (Satellite Emergency Communications) deals in particular with wideband communications via satellite dedicated to emergency related services

ETSI EMTEL strategy and long term
EMTEL is thinking about how to improve the knowledge of the EMTEL work: EMTEL has contacts in different groups but its activities may be not regularly reported Although the industry works on documents the users community are not generally aware of them EMTEL would like to promote its deliverables as references for Public agencies in Europe to help develop coordinated and interoperable systems and deliver a high quality service
