What if I am applying to college outside of Georgia?
Apply through college website, CommonApp, or SendEDU Submit an Official Transcript Request with Counseling Secretaries if you need to physically mail a transcript (first 3 are free and each additional transcript costs $2)

Georgia’s HOPE Program
Zell Miller Scholarship (covers 100% tuition) Must earn a 3.7 GPA in core coursework (English, Math, Science, Soc Studies, & FL) between grades 9-12 Earn at least a 1200 on the Math & Verbal portions of the SAT in one test administration or score at least a 26 composite score on the ACT HOPE Scholarship (covers approximately 85% tuition) Must earn a 3.0 GPA in core coursework (English, Math, Science, Soc Studies, & FL) between grades 9-12 HOPE Grant—available to students who are seeking a technical certificate or diploma, regardless of student’s high school GPA or gradation date

HOPE Eligibility Requirements
For Zell Miller and HOPE Scholarships, students must receive at least four credits in HOPE Rigor Courses For a complete list of eligible HOPE Rigor courses, visit All three HOPE programs will require students to: Be a legal resident of Georgia Be registered with Selective Service, if male Be in compliance with the Georgia Drug-Free Post-secondary Education Act of 1990 Meet HOPE’s US citizenship or eligible non-citizen requirements Attend an eligible Georgia school To see the full list of program requirements, visit

Difference among GPAs Unweighted GPA Weighted GPA Core GPA HOPE GPA
Includes all of your courses (core courses and elective courses) Each course (college prep, AP, IB, Dual Enrollment, Honors, etc.) is weighted exactly the same Weighted GPA Used for class rank and to distinguish Honors & High Honors AP, IB, and Dual Enrollment courses receive 1 additional quality point Core Honor’s courses receive .5 additional quality point Core GPA Only includes English, Math (not Math Support), Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Language Many colleges only look at your Core GPA for admission purposes HOPE GPA Includes only core courses taken in Grades 9 – 12 AP, IB, and Dual Enrollment courses receive an additional .5 quality point (except if you earn an A – no additional .5 quality point added) Used to determine eligibility for Zell Miller & HOPE Scholarship

MHS recommends students take both the SAT & ACT. Colleges will accept best scores from either test. SAT/ACT Boot Camp – Questions? See Ms. Meade in F115 or Remember!!! Colleges & universities require SAT & ACT scores be sent directly from testing agencies. Complete YouScience if you haven’t Ask teachers for letters of recommendation (at least 2 weeks notice) Know college & scholarship application deadlines and do NOT procrastinate while applying Continue earning good grades during senior year Come to senior events (e.g., Senior Financial Aid Meeting on Monday, October 9) Be informed – if you don’t know, ask!
