President Richard Nixon’s involvement in the Watergate scandal forced him to resign from office.
The Watergate scandal raised questions of public trust that still affect how the public and media skeptically view politicians.

10. A BUNGLED BURGLARY
Nixon’s fear of losing elections triggered an attempt to steal information from the democratic campaign headquarters.
At 2:30 a.m. a guard caught 5 men breaking into the DNC.
The plan was to photograph documents and plant bugs and wiretaps.
The leader, James McCord was a former CIA agent and the security coordinator for the CRP.

11. THE COVER-UP UNRAVELS
Documents were shredded and the burglars were paid for their silence.
Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein from the Washington Post, investigated.
The trial revealed that the White House was involved.
Nixon fired all of his “men” and denied everything.
The Senate began its own investigation revealing information about presidential tapes.

12. THE FALL OF A PRESIDENT
The court demanded the release of the tapes and Nixon refused
The Vice-President, Spiro Agnew resigned and was replaced by Gerald Ford.
Nixon released the tapes but they were had many gaps, most notably 181/2 minutes about the Watergate break in.
Nixon resigned, admitting no guilt.
Gerald Ford became the 38th president.
