1 How will the new courses be assessed?
National 5: Internal assessment: Task 1: Practical Investigation You will have to design, carry out and write up a biology practical investigation. Task 2: Short Scientific Report You will research a current Biological issue and write a short 80 word summary of what it is and how is affects the environment or society. End of Unit Assessments You will have test at the end of each of the three units. External assessment: SQA exam May 2014 (80%) This will test knowledge, understanding and problem solving. Added Value Project (20%) This is a bigger project which involves researching a topic, making notes then writing up the final report under exam conditions. How will the new courses be assessed? National 4: Internal assessment: Task 1: Practical Investigation You will have to design, carry out and write up a biology practical investigation. Task 2: Short Scientific Report You will research a current Biological issue and write a short 80 word summary of what it is and how is affects the environment or society. End of Unit Assessments You will have test at the end of each of the three units. Added Value Project This is a much bigger research project on a “hot” topic in Biology and can be a poster, presentation or report. There is NO FINAL EXAM.
