2 The Evidence So Far… Documentary Eyewitnesses Hostile Witnesses
Archaeology, both Old and New Testament Testimony of miracles

3 What People Say Clearly the disciples claimed Jesus’ divinity
Pliny the Younger confirms that Jesus was worshipped as a god

4 Jesus Claimed Attributes of God
Omnipresence Eternality Omniscience Omnipotence Ruler of Angels Judge Forgiver of sins Preexistence

5 Omnipresence Matthew 18:20
For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them. Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

6 Eternality John 6:62 “What if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before!” John 16:28 “I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.” John 17:5 “And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.”

7 Omniscience Matt 11:27 “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” Rev 2:23 “Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds” Matt 24:35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”

8 Omnipotence John 5:21 “For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.” John 10:30 “I and the Father are one.”

9 Ruler of Angels Matthew 13:41
“The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.”

10 Judge Matt 25:31-32, 46 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats…. Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life” John 5:22 “Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son”

11 Forgiver of sins Mark 2:6-7
Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, "Why does this fellow talk like that? He's blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?"

12 Forgiver of sins Luke 7:48 Then Jesus said to her, "Your sins are forgiven." Matt 9:2 Some men brought to him a paralytic, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven."

13 Forgiver of sins Matt 9:3-6
At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, "This fellow is blaspheming!" Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, "Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? Which is easier: to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up and walk'? But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins...." Then he said to the paralytic, "Get up, take your mat and go home."

14 Preexistence John 8:56-58 Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad. You are not yet fifty years old," the Jews said to him, "and you have seen Abraham! I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I AM!" Ex 3:14 God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.'"

15 Jesus allowed Himself to be called God
John 20:28 Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!“ Jesus would have corrected this unless it were true.

16 He claimed divinity all along…
He just didn’t come out and say “OK, I’m God.” Dan 7:13-14 "In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.

17 “OK, I’m God.” John 14:9 Jesus answered: “Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” John 5:25 I tell you the truth, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live.

18 “OK, I’m God.” Mark 14:61-62 But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?” “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” John 10:36-37 “do you say of Him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God?’ If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me”

19 “OK, I’m God.” All three synoptic gospels record Pilate’s famous question, “Are You the King of the Jews?” and Jesus answered, “It is as you say.”

20 What can we conclude? Jesus is the most influential person the world has ever seen, even His enemies would have to grant that. He founded a movement is marked by the highest ethical standards in history. Can’t we just conclude that He is a great moral teacher and agree to disagree?

21 He can’t be just a great teacher
Even Muslims agree that Jesus is coming back. To them He is a great prophet. But as we have seen, Jesus claimed divinity. He said He is God. Shouldn’t this be a problem for them? Shouldn’t this be a problem for anybody?

22 He left us zero options He was either a liar or He was crazy
He said He was God and knew He wasn’t. or He was crazy He really thought He was God and wasn’t or He was telling the truth He said He is God and He is right

23 He left us zero options He is either
a liar a lunatic or Lord There is no room in those options for “great moral teacher.” Great moral teachers do not lie on the scale Jesus is accused nor are they mad in this magnitude.

24 He left us zero options Given the evidence He must be Lord Documentary
Eyewitnesses Hostile Witnesses Archaeology, both Old and New Testament Testimony of miracles His own testimony… He must be Lord
