Extract of Prosopis farcta Improve Antioxidant Status and Fertility Parameters In Male Diabetic Rats

Background
Prosopis facta has been used as a promising nutritional and medical compound in traditional medicine. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Prosopis farcta on fertility parameters, antioxidant status and the damaging effects of diabetes in the testes of rats.
Material Method
In this experimental study, 32 adult male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 groups. For induction of diabetes, streptozotocin (50 mg/kg, intraperitoneal) was used.
Prosopis farcta with dose 400 mg/kg for 30 days received.
Results
Treatment of diabetic rats with aqueous extract of Prosopis farcta lead to a significant increase in sperm count and motility, serum testosterone levels (p =0.000), The levels of testis tissue superoxide dismutase and total capacity antioxidant (p=0.001). Also treatment Prosopis farcta decreases tissue damage caused by diabetes.
Conclusion
Prosopis farcta recovered the fertility parameters through enhancement of antoxidative capacity and reduction of oxidative stress.
