1 Applying the Top 10 New Features and Functions in AutoCAD® 2012
David Cohn Technical Publishing Manager, 4D Technologies

2 Class Summary In this class, we will look at the most significant new features in AutoCAD 2012, including associative arrays, in-canvas viewport control, UCS enhancements, drawing views, multi-functional grips, and AutoComplete command entry. We will look at how they work, how to best apply them to typical workflows, and how these new features impact Autodesk product certification exam topics and objectives.

3 Learning Objectives At the end of this class, you will be able to:
Prepare for the AutoCAD certification exams Create associative arrays Use the new drawing view tools Use multi-functional grips

4 User Interface Changes

5 AutoComplete Command Entry
Makes it easy to start commands and system variables Works in command window or dynamic input field AutoCAD automatically completes the entry

6 In-Canvas Viewport Controls
Located in upper-left of each viewport Change viewport settings Select views Control visual styles

7 Turn On Toolbars Easy way to enable toolbars
No longer need to switch to AutoCAD Classic workspace New tool in the View ribbon Toolbars work just like in earlier versions

8 UCS Enhancements Directly manipulate the UCS Right-click on the UCS
Click on the UCS to display grips Use multi-functional grips to adjust the UCS

9 Multi-Functional Grips

10 Multi-Functional Grips
Grips have been extended to more AutoCAD objects: Lines, arcs, elliptical arcs, dimensions, mleaders, 3D faces, edges, and vertices

11 Associative Arrays

12 Associative Arrays Can now create three types of arrays:
Rectangular, Polar, and Path Maintain relationship between arrayed objects Array objects in 2D and 3D

13 Model Documentation

14 Model Documentation Automatically generate drawing views
Instantly update views when objects change Adjust scale Adjust display Import models from applications including: Pro/Engineer® CATIA ® Solidworks ® NX ® Rhinoceros ®

15 Inventor Fusion

16 Inventor Fusion Experience the benefits of easy-to-use 3D in the native DWG™ format. Tight integration enables quick transfer between AutoCAD and Inventor Fusion environments Flexibly edit and validate models from almost any source, including: Pro/Engineer® CATIA® Solidworks® NX® Rhinoceros®

17 Sharing Drawings

18 DWG Convert Batch convert multiple drawings
Create and save lists of drawings Save them to earlier versions of AutoCAD

19 AutoCAD WS Stay connected to your designs on the web or from your mobile device. Access designs directly from the AutoCAD 2012 user interface.

20 Other Improvements

21 Other Improvements OVERKILL command COPY command Array option
Preview for 2D fillets and chamfers BLEND command Improvements to JOIN command

22 Certification Exams
