1 Aim: Which bones help to make up the Human Skeleton?

2 Do Now: What are the functions and benefits of the Human Skeleton?
Functions of the skeleton are of three different types: support, protection, and motion

3 Functions Serves as a framework for the body. Protects vital organs
The third general function of the skeleton is that of motion. The great majority of the skeletal muscles are firmly anchored to the skeleton, usually to at least two bones and in some cases to many bones.

4 Let’s Think What is the main support of the trunk?
Who’s bones are stronger boys or girls? Why What are two most important lifelong bone health?

Pelvic Girdle The pelvic girdle connects the lower limbs to the axial skeleton And provides strong and stable support for the vertebral column. Each coxal bone results from fusion of 3 bones Copyright 2010, John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

20 Lower Limb: The Patella (Kneecap)
The patella protects the knee joint, and is enclosed by the patellar ligament and the quadriceps femoris tendon. The patella articulates with the femur, and glides us and down in the groove between the femoral condyles as the knee is flexed. 22 The Appendicular Skeleton
The appendicular skeleton is made up mostly of long bones that are connected to the axial skeleton via the pectoral and pelvic girdles. The appendicular skeleton allows a mechanism for manipulating objects, and for moving the body from place to place. Copyright 2010, John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
