1 EMPOWERMENT (45 MINUTES)
This session will help attendees understand the importance of leadership, delegation, and working together as key players of their chapter, highlighting each individual’s strengths and leadership skills. Attendees will also identify their own leadership skills and set a personal leadership goal along with an action plan to assist with understanding leadership and connecting it to the overall Best Buddies mission.

10 Go over the mandatory officer roles (Chapter President, Buddy Directory, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Special Education Advisor, Faculty Advisor, Host Site Coordinator, PM) What roles do each of these positions play in your chapter? Why are they important? DISCUSSION WHO ARE THE KEY PLAYERS IN YOUR CHAPTER? WHAT ARE THEIR ROLES?

WHAT ARE EXAMPLES OF THINGS YOU DELEGATE TO CERTAIN ROLES? DO YOU NEED TO CREATE MORE ROLES FOR EFFICIENCY IN THE CHAPTER? WHY IS FUNCTIONING AS A TEAM IMPORTANT?

12 FIND INDIVIDUAL STRENGTHS WHEN DELEGATING
Stress the importance of finding each individual’s strengths when delegating roles Ex: Suzie is the secretary and is great with technology, empower her to be in charge of submitting friendship updates, updating the BBO calendar, and keeping the chapter portal up to date with announcements and pictures. Also assign Suzie to create social media pages and disability awareness websites to utilize her strength with technology. FIND INDIVIDUAL STRENGTHS WHEN DELEGATING

13 WHY IS THE ROLE OF BUDDY DIRECTOR SO IMPORTANT?
Make sure you recognize the strengths of the buddy director. Ex: Bobby is your Buddy Director and he really excels when given the opportunity to do public speaking. Utilize Bobby’s strength by having him make all chapter announcements at meetings and activities. Also ask Bobby to get involved in your states ambassador program so he can do public speaking on a larger scale and to share his story about Best Buddies, while also doing something he loves.

When should you reach out to your Program Manager? Set up a communication schedule with your Program Manager at the beginning of the school year Be open with your advisor and work with their schedule before/during/after school to keep good communication UTILIZE YOUR CHAPTER ADVISORS & PM

(5 MINUTES) Have students work independently for 5 minutes to come up with a list of their personal strengths and what they can contribute to their chapter PERSONAL REFLECTION THE IMPORTANCE OF RECOGNIZING PERSONAL SKILLS AS A LEADER

ONE GOAL YOU WISH TO ACCOMPLISH AS A LEADER AT YOUR SCHOOL. HOW WILL THE GOAL AFFECT… YOU? YOUR CHAPTER? BEST BUDDIES AS A WHOLE? THE DISABILITY RIGHTS MOVEMENT? WHAT IS YOUR ACTION PLAN? Reflecting on their personal skills and goal they wish to accomplish this year as a leader, have students come up with an action plan to ensure this goal is met while utilizing their skills, delegating, and being an effective leader.
