1 Mathematics in the EYFS
Number Shape Space Measure

2 Mathematics in the EYFS
Number

3 Number 6+4=10 Reciting numbers in order.
Counting reliably – 1:1 correspondence - example of 1:1 correspondence Recognising numerals 1-20 and putting them in order. We actually do 1-30 and backwards. Knowing one more or one less than a given number. Recording number through pictures 6+4=10

4 Number Recognising numerals anywhere!

5 Finding ways to order or sort numbers

6 Number Adding together two groups of objects to find a total.
Using single digit numbers e.g. 6+4=10 Taking away from a group of objects

7 Number Solve practical problems including –
Doubling – ice cream scoops in the café using ‘double’ scoops. Two teddies have come for lunch – now two more have arrived, how many do we have now? How could we record this?

8 Number Halving – Sharing a group of objects equally between two children – food in a café, cutting fruit for snack in half

9 One question which we posed was: How can you make 10?
The children interpreted this is a variety of ways.

10 Daily Maths Meeting Counting 1-30-1 Patterns 12345678
Numicon ways to make … Patterns in the environment Daily vote

11 Shape, Space and Measure
Shapes in the environment – describing shapes eg round, flat. Naming 2D and 3D shapes. Describing their position in relation to objects – behind, next to etc.

12 Shape, Space and Measure
Describe and create patterns – Uses the mathematical vocabulary of size, weight, capacity, distance, time and money.

13 Let’s be positive about maths!
