2 The Strategic Planning Council
Strategic planning is the responsibility of the college president. President Kleniewski created the Strategic Planning Council to facilitate the development and implementation of each generation of our strategic plan. The Council consists of faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members soliciting broad feedback from all campus constituencies. The group, along with others, then assesses the outcomes of the plan to facilitate the development of the next plan. Strategic planning is the responsibility of a college’s president. We will ensure a quality and affordable education emphasizing ethical, critical, and creative thinking for our graduates to succeed in a diverse and changing world. Update the SPC Mission and Charge Mission: The Strategic Planning Council (SPC) guides and supports long-range, institutional planning to advance SUNY Oneonta’s mission as a student- centered learning community. Charge: The SPC, reporting and recommending to the President and in consultation with the campus community, develops, reviews and revises the strategic plan. The SPC solicits feedback from various individuals and constituencies throughout the planning process. The SPC reports progress and proposed changes to the strategic plan to the President’s Cabinet, College Senate and other campus groups. The SPC works closely with the Budget Advisory Committee to ensure that planning and budgeting are integrated processes. STRATEGIC PLAN 2015: SCHOLARSHIP, SERVICE, STRENGTH

Evaluate Challenges and Pressures Related to SP2015 Goals & Objectives Objective 2A: Craft a distinctive identity for SUNY Oneonta that highlights our values and achievements. Continued action on this has been deferred Objective 3B: Implement a strategic enrollment plan to address sustainable enrollment growth and further diversify the student body. Participation of Chief Enrollment Services Officer Kevin Jensen on the SPC Reviewing the strategic enrollment plan this spring Objective 4C: Restore annual operating reserve to 15% of state support by increasing revenue and operating more efficiently. Continue Receiving uPdates on Action Items Objective 3c: Increase 4-year Graduation Rates to Meet the Chancellor’s Goal of 60% by 2020. Action Item 3c-4. Revise the class scheduling process to target needs of new students. Objective 1d: Increase opportunities for students to be mentored. Action Items 1d-1, 2, 3 all require a definition for what mentoring is. Associate Provost Morgan-Zayachek presented a definition to the SPC. Identify & Monitor Performance Indicators Primary goal for spring SPC meetings have been expanded to 90 minutes. Evaluating: Timing of data collection tools and changes in them (NSSE, SOS, FSSE) Performance Indicators that support each goal that the SPC identifies Performance Indicators proposed by Action Item owners Objective 3c: Increase 4-year graduation rates to meet the Chancellor's goal of 60% by 4-year or less graduation rate by cohort (Common Data Set, OIAE website) 52.3% (2007), 55.5% (2008), 55.6% (2009) Objective 1b: Formalize a Center for Teaching Excellence to serve as the focal point of activity for advancing teaching, learning, and engagement. Strengthen Ties Between Planning and Budgeting Activities Middle States Standard VI: Planning, Resources, and Institutional Improvement The institution’s planning processes, resources, and structures are aligned with each other and are sufficient to fulfill its mission and goals, to continuously assess and improve its programs and services, and to respond effectively to opportunities and challenges. Criteria #1: institutional objectives, both institution- wide and for individual units, that are clearly stated, assessed appropriately, linked to mission and goal achievement, reflect conclusions drawn from assessment results, and are used for planning and resource allocation; Spring 2017: Joint SPC-Budget Advisory Committee Meeting Explore training from Middle States on connecting planning and budgeting (but not in isolation from other efforts such as assessment) STRATEGIC PLAN 2015: SCHOLARSHIP, SERVICE, STRENGTH

The SPC meets monthly during the academic year on Fridays in Netzer 310, usually at 3pm. January 20th, February 17th, March 17th, April 21st.
