2 In literature, conflict is the result of competing desires or the presence of obstacles that need to be overcome. Conflict is necessary to propel a narrative forward; the absence of conflict amounts to the absence of story.

A figure of speech in which a writer or speaker deliberately makes a situation seem less important or serious than it is. Hyperbole An exaggeration To state too strongly

6 Irony the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect. – Verbal Irony Synonyms: sarcasm, causticity, cynicism, mockery, satire, sardonicism antonyms: sincerity a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a resulth – Situational Irony Synonyms: paradox, incongruity, incongruousness a literary technique, originally used in Greek tragedy, by which the full significance of a character's words or actions are clear to the audience or reader although unknown to the character. – Dramatic Irony

7 Paradox something (such as a situation) that is made up of two opposite things and that seems impossible but is actually true or possible someone who does two things that seem to be opposite to each other or who has qualities that are opposite a statement that seems to say two opposite things but that may be true

8 Point-of-view a particular attitude or way of considering a matter.
synonyms: opinion, view, belief, attitude, feeling, sentiment, thoughts; More (in fictional writing) the narrator's position in relation to the story being told. the position from which something or someone is observed. **in poetry, may also be referred to as the speaker

9 Theme a theme is the central topic of a text. Themes can be divided into two categories: a work's thematic concept is what readers "think the work is about" and its thematic statement being "what the work says about the subject".
