1. ERA-EDTA Activation Committees
AIMS:
ERA-EDTA is a very vibrant and active Society with continually growing and diversified activities
The ERA-EDTA Council therefore needs the help of the countries, located in the ERA-EDTA’s geographical area that are usually not as well represented in ERA-EDTA bodies or committees, not only to implement the Society’s decisions but also, and even more importantly, to receive new suggestions and ideas to strengthen the Association but also address the local needs of its members.

2. ERA-EDTA Activation Committees
CRITERIA:
Representatives of countries not present as leaders (chairpersons or vice-chairpersons) of any of the ERA-EDTA Committees in the last five years will be included.
An EAC is activated with a minimum of four countries represented.
Definition of relevant ERA-EDTA Committees: Council (all members). For other ERA-EDTA committees only the Chair/Editor and Vice-Chair: Registry, CME, SAB (in this case Co-Chair and Secretary-Coordinator), ERBP, YNP, Ethics Committee, Congress Scientific Committee, NDT, CKJ, NDT-Educational.

3. ERA-EDTA Activation Committees
REQUIREMENTS, COMPOSITION AND ROTATION
There will be maximum six ERA-EDTA Activation Committees.
The number of active/functioning/running EACs can change according to the need (see item 2 of the Criteria above).
Each Activation Committee will include one representative per country (National Correspondents): one of them must be the Communicator (Chair).
The Communicator (Chair) will be a National Society President selected by the ERA-EDTA Council. His/her duty will be related to communication between the ERA-EDTA Council and the EAC.

4. ERA-EDTA Activation Committees
Nomination of members of the Activation Committee: this will be the responsibility of the ERA-EDTA Council following an open call by ERA-EDTA among the National Societies; the eligible candidates must be ERA-EDTA members and must live and work in one of the countries of the specific Activation Committee for which the call is made.
The members remain in the committee for three years.
Provided that the country is still eligible for a position within an EAC, the same person can be re-elected into the committee for a second term (three years), but not for a third term.
Members can leave the committee on a voluntary basis or by exclusion for serious violations of the ERA-EDTA rules and regulations. In the latter case, it is the ERA-EDTA Council that is in charge of making the decision, and a new person must substitute the one leaving according to the nomination criteria described above. This new person will simply complete the term of the person leaving the EAC.

5. ERA-EDTA Activation Committees
DUTIES
The Activation Committee members should communicate among themselves (at least three times a year), by means of or teleconferences to:
Improve communication between the ERA-EDTA Council and National Societies of Nephrology
Answer any questions raised by the Council
Implement the Council’s decisions; discuss regional problems and new ideas which should then be transmitted to Council
Help the Council in selecting good candidates for the various ERA-EDTA Committees from their region
Distribute, through their local contacts, important information coming from the ERA-EDTA Council and its various committees (ERBP, WGs, Registry, YNP, etc.) including all the Society’s initiatives and opportunities

6. ERA-EDTA Activation Committees
DUTIES
The Activation Committee members should communicate among themselves (at least three times a year), by means of or teleconferences to:
Help the Council implement initiatives in the region (e.g organization of CME Courses)
Encourage the submission of abstracts for the ERA-EDTA annual Congresses
Activate young nephrologists (i.e. ERA-EDTA awards during the National Congresses)
Increase the number of ERA-EDTA members by promoting the special membership fees and ERA-EDTA initiatives reduced fee etc.  – also the reduced registration fee for ERA-EDTA Congresses
Increase interest in the Fellowship Programme.

7. ERA-EDTA Activation Committees
The Communicator (Chair) should send regular reports to the ERA-EDTA Council at least 2 weeks prior to each Council meeting, which are held three times a year; an item entitled “Reports from the Activation Committees” should be included in the Agenda of each ERA-EDTA Council meeting, under which these reports will be presented and discussed by the Council.
The ERA-EDTA President will be in charge of collecting these reports and then presenting them to Council and, subsequently, to the annual National Society meeting.
There should be one face-to-face meeting to be held during the annual ERA-EDTA Congress: the ERA-EDTA President will always be invited to participate in these meetings (with voice but not vote).
ERA-EDTA will give all members of the EAC a complimentary Congress registration, but ERA-EDTA will not cover any other expenses (travel/accommodation). ERA-EDTA will also provide a meeting room for the meeting and cover expenses related to these meetings.
