History of the Empire Waist
The empire waist started in the time period of in Europe and European-influenced countries. Elegance and simplicity became the primary focus of democratic ideals which made gowns more detailed and introduced the empire waistline. Most gowns were made of cotton muslin or silk and the dress would go at least ankle length. The “empire” waist was very high and usually in cream or white.
